Artist Statement

 

         My current work illustrate the journey of self exploration that I am currently undertaking. The subject matter deals with the workings of the inner self. As a photographer, I am expanding on the traditional ideals of portraiture to go beyond the single image as a way to embrace a new method of working which incorporates alternative photography processes, painting, and mixed media.

 

          I collage my photographs, then alter the images within the layers of paint, wax, joint compound and other found objects so that abstract representations protrude through that are sometimes hidden. By using this method of layers, I am able to deconstruct my images and depict aspects of my emotions, personality, and constant transformations.

 

          Through this development of experiences I am revealing something more within the conscious and subconscious. These works have allowed me to focus more on the inward characteristics perhaps not seen from the exterior, the inner workings of the human mind.
